Owner’s request

A visionary owner sought a unique solution:

"When I have a private or remote party, I want to land my vehicle tender on the edge of the beach and link it up to my other two tenders to create a party platform for all my guests."

For many, this concept might seem like an easy "no—never been done before, impossible!" But with innovation at the forefront, the collaboration between the client, Zaniz Interiors, and SMART turned this ambitious idea into a viable concept.

Our challenges

Creating a cohesive party experience from three independent tender entertainment systems presented several challenges:

  • Designing systems with interdependent functions for each tender.
  • Developing a method to physically and functionally link the tenders.
  • Networking and distribution requirements for AV source and control.
  • Ensuring the systems could be easily set up and operated.

The solution

Achieving success required early and close collaboration between the owner, designer, and tender builder, for both the technical and operational aspects to come together. The technology side of the project involved designing entertainment systems for three distinct tenders: the Limo, Lander, and Express.

Design considerations

The key was aligning space allocation, weight distribution, and power requirements early on, ensuring the systems integrated seamlessly into the tenders' builds. Each tender’s primary purpose defined their entertainment needs:

  • Lander
This tender had a large empty deck platform to work with due to the primary purpose of transporting a 4x4 vehicle. Designed as the central party hub with a rugged LED dance floor capable of withstanding outdoor elements—and even the weight of vehicles. It featured multiple speaker and DMX connection points, a waterproof display, loudspeakers, and a DJ input at the helm. Compact rack hardware was tucked away in an electronics cupboard.
  • Express
Engineered for speed, its sound system and connectivity complemented the overall entertainment experience without being the primary focus. A bedroom at the fwd. of the tender allowed an isolated AV system to be installed, separate to the overall PoD (Party-on-Demand) solution.
  • Limo
Focused on comfort and luxury, this tender prioritized relaxation while remaining part of the larger entertainment system with an elegant, capable, yet unimposing speaker model selection and integration. A small display was also included within the interior for casual viewing during short journeys.

Interconnectivity

The heart of the solution was connecting all audio distribution systems, enabling the ‘Lander’ to serve as the central control for the ‘Express’ and ‘Limo.’ Both wired and wireless solutions were explored:

  • Wireless option
Although feasible, it came with lower reliability due to dependency on IT configurations, which could pose challenges during use – especially for maintenance as troubleshooting may be more than a simpler ‘turn it off and on again’.
  • Wired option
Preferred for its reliability, this approach introduced its own challenges. Custom waterproof connectors and extendable cables were designed to enable secure connections between tenders. A safe-release mechanism was incorporated to protect against accidental damage if the tenders drifted apart on the water.

Seamless Guest experience

The tender exit and entry points were strategically aligned to allow guests to move effortlessly across the tenders and onto the beach. This thoughtful design also ensured that connection points met pre-determined length tolerances for safety and ease of use.

The entire system leveraged AoIP (Audio over IP) technology, complemented by intelligent processing and a simple, user-friendly interface as requested by the owner.

Outcome

The project culminated in a fully designed, costed, and specified solution for both wireless and wired tender PoD concepts. However, not all projects come to fruition. While this idea ultimately remains in the design archive, the journey of innovation and problem-solving was invaluable.
